Salutations Yoginis & Yogis,
Hello & Namasté!

May carries us into the wildest part of spring—flowers in full bloom, warmer weather, budding trees and foliage alight with green. It’s a perfect time to start new activities and projects. Nevertheless, with the many activities in the month of May and June upon us, may we each find time to reconnect with our yoga practice and begin our transition into the outward, light-filled days enjoying the colors and the scents of the season.

The spring season schedule is shortly coming to an end, however, there’s no need to roll up your yoga mat as of yet. Take a peek at the new schedule now on the website www.ybs.no.  Hopefully it will help you gather your energies for the upcoming change in season before we take time to revel in the beautiful stretch of summer!  You will notice there are a few changes, which will provide more time spent on the terrace grilling and socializing into the late evening with friends and loved-ones.

Finally, as we know that spring is a time for shaking off the winter blues and celebrating the reawakening of life, why not try this month’s Asana (posture) and welcome new perspectives.  Yoga Body & Soul will also be doing some spring cleaning, so next time you’re in the studio, check out what yoga items have been reduced.

FYI:

The studio will be open for practice:
Tuesday June 2nd (Kristi Himmelfartsdag) and Monday June 13th (2. Pinsedag).

Studio closed:
Thursday June 23rd (Sankthansaften), as I will be eagerly attending an intensive 4-day Meditation course with the meditation master Uezu San.

Hope to see you on the mat!

With radiant love & light,

mariex

Asana of the Month

Asana of the Month

Garudasana (gah-rue-DAHS-anna)
Garuda = the mythic "King of Birds" or eagle

Eagle pose is the quintessential cleansing posture. This tightly compressed asana detoxifies your major joints from head to toe and stimulates your lymphatic system.

How to achieve Garudasana:

Bend your knees a lot and rise up to Utkatasana, or chair pose. Squeeze your inner thighs together, engage your core, and draw your weight back into your heels. On an exhale, sweep your right arm underneath your left with elbows bent, and draw your palms together. Then, sweep your right leg over your left and either rest your right foot on the ground next to your left ankle, or wrap your right toes around the back of your left calf. Keep squeezing your inner thighs together, and melt your hips a little bit deeper. Work on drawing your elbows away from your chest and your palms away from your face. If this is painful on your shoulders, simply rest opposite palms on opposite shoulders. Hold Garudasana for 7 - 10 breaths on the right side; then return to Utkatasana and repeat on the left side.
